In today’s living, people struggle with the controversy between mind and spirit. Most times this is a struggle between more than one person, and or a struggle between oneself. There is always a logical side to a person and a passionate, expressive side, with the ones who decide to march under either flag. The two sides often divide our generation, leaving some with only having put their trust in one belief. These two sides, or beliefs bring up people such as mathematicians and artists, more relatively science minded individuals and individuals of faith. More recently through the generations over countless decades have these two sides become opposing forces. They have become two completely different views of living. Francis Collins wrote this book to discuss the issue between these two opposing forces. Francis Collins wrote and divided this book into three sections: Section one: The Chasm Between Science and Faith, Part Two: The Great Questions of Human Existence, and Part Thre e: Faith in Science, Faith in God. During all this fame he encountered romance. Living with the precincts of Notre-Dame under the care of her uncle, Fulbert, he met a girl named Heloise. Abelard soon fell in love with her. He became a tutor to this girl and he used his power for the purpose of seduction. Soon everyone seemed to know about this romance except for Fulbert and as soon as he found out they were separated. They now could only meet in secret. She soon became pregnant and at this time Abelard took her home to Brittney where she gave birth to a baby boy. That night he and some others broke into Abelard’s chamber and castrated him! The priesthood and ecclesiastical office were canonically closed to him. Heloise consummated her work of self-sacrifice and became a nun. This how ever only affected his work temporarily and. This upset many people and he was forced to burn the book and he was also held captive in the convent of St.  Medard at Soissons. He thought that this would be the worst experience that he would ever have to go through. One of the things that he did enjoy doing at convent was irritating the monks. He soon decided that life in the monastery was unbearable so he was able to go and live in a desert place until it was time for his persecution. The kink implies the family is spending exactly half of their income on childcare and half on the other goods[1]. The family is currently spending $10,000 for childcare. The amount spend on other goods is therefore ($60,000-$10,000) = $50,000. The point of equilibrium is at e where the indifference curve I1 is tangent to the budget line MNO. The equilibrium bundle of goods is given as (10000, 50000). A subsidy of 85% on total cost of subsidies implies that the family can now consume more of health care services at the given income. Imposition of subsidy shifts the budget line from MNO to MNO. The family now needs to pay only 15% of childcare cost[2]. The rest that is 85% or additional 8500 can be spent on other goods. This implies for each additional work effort the workers get a lower effective wage. This in turn means leisure now becomes cheaper as worker have to forgo a lower amount of wage[5]. This encourages workers to substitute more work hours with leisure. This is the substitution effect of increased tax rate. The substitution effect always increases leisure over work effort. There is another effect on taxes, which is the income effect. The lower wage reduces purchasing power of people. Therefore, to keep the level of utility at a certain level workers need to work more hours[6]. The income effect therefore has a positive influence on working hours. An increases in tax rate therefore has two opposite effect on work hours. If substitution effect dominates then working hours decreases while if income effect dominates then working hours increases. In figure 4, substitution effect dominates and hence work hours reduces from TH1 to TH2. Opposite is the case in figure 5.
