The Conflict Between Science And Faith - 1282 Words

In today’s living, people struggle with the controversy between mind and spirit. Most times this is a struggle between more than one person, and or a struggle between oneself. There is always a logical side to a person and a passionate, expressive side, with the ones who decide to march under either flag. The two sides often divide our generation, leaving some with only having put their trust in one belief. These two sides, or beliefs bring up people such as mathematicians and artists, more relatively science minded individuals and individuals of faith. More recently through the generations over countless decades have these two sides become opposing forces. They have become two completely different views of living. Francis Collins wrote this book to discuss the issue between these two opposing forces. Francis Collins wrote and divided this book into three sections: Section one: The Chasm Between Science and Faith, Part Two: The Great Questions of Human Existence, and Part Thre e: Faith in Science, Faith in God. Section one of the book is about the story of Francis Collins’ endeavor towards his new found faith and philosophical debates towards it; ‘It’ being the faith. Collins was raised with an indifference towards faith, describing his upbringing as that of being a â€Å"freethinker.† Both his parents were both artistic folk, not the religious type.
